Advanced Course in Remote Sensing & GIS

ISNET offered sponsorship to
participants from ISNET member
countries for a training course on
“Advanced Course in Remote Sensing &
GIS”. This course was organised by
SUPARCO from
13 May to 24 May 2006.

The course was aimed at providing
concepts and knowledge on the advanced
techniques being used in GIS
development and applications. It also
covered issues relating to
operationalisation of Remote sensing
and GIS in different discipline areas.
Two participants each from General
Organisation of Remote Sensing (GORS),
Syria and Remote Sensing Authority (RSA),
Sudan attended the course.
Training Course on Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing

Photogrammetry and Satellite Remote
Sensing technologies are widely
being utilized for earth resource
mapping, monitoring and modelling in
a variety of discipline areas e.g
Agriculture, Forestry, Hydrology,
Urban Planning, Civil Engineering
etc. To draw optimum benefits from
these technologies, development of
knowledge base and experience is a
must.
In this regards, a two week training
course on Photogrammetry & Remote
Sensing was organised by SUPARCO at
Karachi. Overall 17 participants
from national organisations as well
as OIC member countries participated
in the course. ISNET sponsored six
participants; four from Iraq and two
from Bangladesh.

The topics relevant to
Photogrammetry, satellite remote
sensing technology, its applications
as well as available tools in
handling different satellite data
types and extracting information to
be readily used by managers,
planners and policy makers were
covered. The course was targeted for
those who are working in
applications of these technologies
in their relevant departments/
companies/ organizations of their
respective countries.
ISNET International Seminar & Exhibition 2006
Space Technology & Applications
Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad (11 – 15 September 2006)
ISNET held a 4-day International Seminar on Space Technology & Applications from 11- 14 September 2006 followed by an excursion trip on 15th September 2006. The venue of the seminar was Institute of Space Technology, a premier Space Technology education institution of Pakistan located on Islamabad Highway. After conclusion of the Seminar, participants were taken for an excursion trip to Archeological site of Taxila, present the remnants of the Gandhara Civilization.
The Seminar included sessions on
Remote Sensing Applications,
Satellite Communication, Satellite
Navigation, Space Science and
TeleMedicine. Forty nine papers and
presentations were delivered at the
Seminar which included six
commercial presentations delivered
by International corporations.
Twelve participants from Azerbaijan,
Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan
and Sudan presented scientific
papers. Nineteen participants from 6
Pakistani organisations including
SUPARCO participated in the Seminar
to present scientific papers.
Furthermore eight other
organizations sent their
representatives to attend the
Seminar and acquire know-how on
latest developments in Space
Technology and its applications in
daily life. Students from local
universities also attended the
Seminar.

Alongside the seminar an exhibition
had also been organized in which a
few local and foreign companies
displayed their products and
services.

Training Course on Remote Sensing & Digital Image Processing

Satellite Remote Sensing technologies and digital image processing techniques are widely being utilized for earth resource mapping, monitoring and modelling in a variety of discipline areas e.g. Agriculture, Forestry, Hydrology, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering etc. To draw optimum benefits from these technologies, development of knowledge base and experience is a must.
In this regard, a two week training course on Remote Sensing & Digital Image Processing was organised by SUPARCO from 18 – 29 December 2006 at SUPARCO Headquarters, Karachi. 22 participants from national organisations as well as OIC member countries including two from Sudan, one from Bangladesh and one from Nigeria, with the financial assistance of ISNET, attended the course. One Pakistani national studying in Germany, also attended the course.
